"The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Thousands of Teachers Protest Senate Bill 5 at Statehouse"

external image DocumentDownload.aspx?DocumentID=20196

In Columbus, Ohio more than three thousand of Ohio Education Association, OEA members joined thousands of supporters to rally at the Statehouse to rally against Bill 5 on February 22, 2011. Bill 5 is the plan to strip out collective bargaining rights for public sector workers. Teachers are worried that this is a direct affect on Ohio families and future students. Some teachers took personal time off while other teachers rushed down there last minute because their schools closed for bad weather. Educators think Bill 5 will: severely damage teaching and learning conditions because classrooms will be overcrowded, remove the voice of the professionals, and replace the experienced teachers with people that have no classroom experience.

"Self-love has very little to do with how you feel about your outer self. It`s about accepting all of yourself. You`ve got to learn to accept the fool in you as well as the part that`s got it goin` on." --Tyra Banks

I think Tyra Banks is a very good example of transcendentalism. She shows optimism and self reliance. She believes that you should be happy and love your body no matter what it looks like or what other people say about it. In her teens, Tyra Banks, was a skinny, black female and she modeled. Now she is grown up and she has her own show called the "Tyra Show." On her show she often gives advice to people about many different things such as: relationships, weight, modeling, careers, and self-esteem. She helps people cope with their everyday life even when it's not that great. She gets them to love their life and cherish it each and everyday. Banks, being a thicker black female, as some people see her, takes her own advice very well. Although she is not as small as she used to be she loves her body. All the people that make comments about her body and call her obese she ignores those comments and continues on with her life because what they say to her means nothing, she loves her body. I think Banks relates to Emerson and Thoreau because they both agree that life is very beautiful and people should cherish it. You can't live your life thinking about negatives all the time. You have to see the good in everything and that is exactly what Banks does. She has had a very successful life and she has followed her dreams ever since she was little. She was a model, she did acting, and now she even has her own television talk show. A lot of young adults look up to her for her transcendentalistic acts. I hope to see everyone be a little more like her and cherish their lives because life is to short to just not be happy. Get out and do everything you can. Live life with no regrets.

Chelsea's Page

(BILLY RAY:)
Shes gotta do what shes gotta do
And I’ve gotta like it or not
Shes got dreams to big for this town
And she needs to give ‘em a shot
Wherever they are

(MILEY:)
Looks like I’m all ready to leave
Theres nothin’ left to pack

(BILLY RAY:)
Aint no room for me in that car
Even if she asks me to tag along
(Both:)
Gotta gotta be strong

(MILEY:)
I’m at the startin line of the rest of my life
As ready as I’ve ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in my eyes
The prize is mine to win
(BILLY RAY:)
She’s waitin’ on my blessins
`Fore she hits that open road
Baby get ready
(MILEY:)
Ohh Im ready
(BILLY RAY:)
Get set, don’t go

(MILEY:)
Looks like things are fallin in place

(BILLY RAY:)
Feels like theyre fallin apart
Im paintin this big ol’ smile on my face
To hide my broken heart
If only she knew

(MILEY:)
This is where you don’t say
What you want so bad to say

(BILLY RAY;)
This is where I want to
But I wont get in the way
Of her and her dream
And spreadin her wings
(MILEY:)
I’m ready to fly

(MILEY:)
Im at the startin line of the rest of my life
As ready as I’ve ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in my eyes
The prize is mine to win
(BILLY RAY:)

She’s waitin’ on my blessins `fore she hits that open road
(MILEY:)
gotta hit that open road
(BILLY RAY:)
Baby get ready, get set
(Both:)
Don’t go

(CHORUS)
(MILEY:)
Im at the startin line of the rest of my life
As ready as Ive ever been
(BILLY RAY:)
It’ll be alright
(MILEY:)
Got the hunger and the stars in my eyes
The prize is mine to win
I’ll be okay
(BILLY RAY:)
She’s waitin’ on my blessings
‘Fore she hits that open road
Baby get ready
(MILEY:)
Oh oh oh
(BILLY RAY:)
Get set, please don’t go
Don’t go

(MILEY:)
Lemme go now
I’m ready

(BILLY RAY:)
Hmmmm Dont go

(MILEY:)
I’ll be alright
I’ll be okay
Know that I’ll
Be thinkin of you
Each and every day

(BILLY RAY:)
Shes gotta do what shes gotta do

(MILEY:)
lemme go now

(BILLY RAY)
Shes gotta do what shes gotta do

(MILEY:)
I gotta do what I gotta do

(BILLY RAY:)
Shes gotta do what shes gotta do

I think that this song has a lot to do with transcendentalism. It talks about growing up and moving on in your life. Also you can't let anything hold you back from achieving your dreams. Billy Ray Cyrus sings about his daughter, Miley, getting ready to leave and move on. He doesn't want her to leave but he knows that she has dreams that she wants to achieve. In your life you have to live it to the fullest and you shouldn't live with any regrets. You want to achieve your dreams and do everything that you can in your life because life is too short to let your dreams go to waste. This relates to a lot with what Emerson and Thoreau say because they both say you should walk to the beat of your own drum and not follow people. When you follow what other people do you aren't being yourself and when you aren't being yourself you can't live your life how you want to.
