“Somewhere over the rainbow/ What a wonderful world” by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole”
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops that’s where you'll find me oh
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to, why, oh why can't I?
Well I see trees of green and
Red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark and I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, I...I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more
Than we'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Someday I'll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top that's where you'll find me
Oh, Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dream that you dare to, why, oh why can't I? I?

This song shows optimism, and it talks about the beauty of nature. Two of the major points of transcendentalism.

Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle was a famous comedian, actor, film producer, and film writer with a television show on comedy central. Chappelle was ranked forty-third on the top 100 comedians by Comedy Central. He was signed on to do two more seasons of “The Chappelle Show”, his own sketch comedy show, when he left the country and went to Africa.
Dave Chappelle is a transcendentalist because he left his show and left to Africa. Leaving does not make him a transcendentalist, but the reason behind his leaving is. Chappelle said he left the country because he did not want to be controlled by the network. He does not want to be part of the machine, but he wants to be himself. He is being self-reliant. Emerson said in Self Reliance “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.” Dave Chappelle is changing the way he lives, not being consistent. He also says you should “trust thyself”, and Chappelle trusted himself and left the country when he could have made millions from his show.

Kent State Shootings
In May of 1970, the United States National Guard met several students protesting the bombing of Cambodia by the United States military. After four students were killed, and eight more injured, the nation followed the story intently. These twelve students were protesting peacefully when they clashed with the National Guard. The mayor of Kent, Ohio had called the governor of Ohio and declared a state of emergency. The next day the National Guard was sent in, and eventually twenty-nine of the soldiers opened fire.
These protestors were peacefully protesting the Vietnam War, allowing them to be a counter friction to the American military. Emerson would agree with the students attending the rally. He would say that the students should do what they believe is morally right.

V for Vendetta
V for vendetta is a graphic novel that takes place in a post world war three Britain. The current fascist dictator rules with an iron fist. A man disguised in a Guy Fawkes mask, only known by "V" uses terrorist tactics to destroy the current regime. V follows in the footsteps of Guy Fawkes, who wanted to blow up the English Parliament, and destroys several of the government's important buildings. V rescues a girl named Evey, and as she learns more about V's past, she discovers more about herself. In the end Evey plays a crucial role in bringing down the fascist government.
V for Vendetta is an example of transcendentalism in modern pop culture because V is one man trying to make a difference. He is living his life to go against the government currently in power, and has optimism that the people of Britain will set up a non-corrupt government, after the current government is taken out of power.
